My name is Abby Rixon and I’m the owner and operator of Abby’s Treats, a home-based food cottage business.
After graduating from college in December 2014 and getting married in 2015, my husband, Marcus and I moved to Nashville, TN. I taught high school math for four years and loved it. I left teaching in 2019 to stay home with our son, Elliot, and had no intention of starting Abby’s Treats…
My cookie decorating journey began in December 2018 while I was home on maternity leave with Elliot. I found myself watching a lot of the Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge show and other holiday baking shows. By the end of every episode, I thought to myself, “They make it look easy, surely I can do that!” So I strapped Elliot in a baby carrier and we headed to the kitchen. I figured if the cookies turned out presentable, we could gift them to my husband’s clients with their Christmas gifts and if they didn’t, we could eat them. Either way, it was a win-win! With the help of my little baking assistant, the cookies turned out well and my husband’s clients loved them!
I spent 2019 finishing my last year of teaching and getting the hang of the whole parenting thing. In my limited free time, I practiced my new hobby- decorating cookies with royal icing. By the end of the year, I began making custom orders for family and friends.
2020 brought an official launch of Abby’s Treats and I couldn’t be more excited!
When I’m not decorating cookies or baking other treats, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, cooking, reading, playing games, and watching The Office and Parks & Recreation.
